Insurance Market Conduct Examiner Anticipated Starting Salary Range: $51,333 - $54,000 Starting Salary Commensurate with Qualifications and Experience The State Corporation Commission's (SCC) Bureau of Insurance (BOI) seeks an Insurance Market Conduct Examiner to perform examinations of the market practices of property and casualty insurance companies. These team-based examinations include interaction with insurance company personnel during the review of claim handling practices, policy rating and underwriting, forms, policy issuance, and terminations for compliance with Virginia statutes and regulations. Additional responsibilities of the selected candidate will include documenting examination findings, report writing and communicating both verbally and in writing with insurance company representatives, regulators from other states, and SCC staff. This position requires travel, both in and out of state.

Preferred Qualifications

Preferred qualifications for this position include professional experience in property and casualty insurance, including some experience in claims. A bachelor's degree in Accounting, Business Administration, Economics, or a related field is preferred, but not required. A familiarity with insurance business practices is essential. Ideal candidates for this position will have the ability to: use various software applications; establish and maintain effective working relationships with SCC staff and industry personnel; be a good team player; and remain focused on work for extended periods of time. Strong reading comprehension, strong written and verbal communication skills, strong analytical and organizational skills, punctuality, and patience are all skills and attributes critical to success in this position. Claims experience in automobile and/or property insurance specifically is a plus.
