The Morsani College of Medicine (MCOM) has over $300 million in extramural funding and submits over 600 research proposals annually. MCOM has active research programs in basic, translational, and clinical sciences. The MCOM Office of Research supports faculty and students with their research endeavors by providing research administrative support while working in collaboration with other University Colleges and Offices. This office reports to the Vice Dean of Research for the Morsani College of Medicine.
Provide bioinformatics/computational biology analysis services to USF faculty conducting microbiome or gene expression experiments.
Teaching Duties ( 10%):
Teach in bioinformatics or computational biology courses
Teach and organize workshops for students, post-doctoral fellows, staff and faculty
Supervision of graduate students or post-doctoral fellows in computational analysis of data.
Research Duties (90%):
Assist USF Health faculty in applying computational skills to complex biological questions.
Creation and implementation of bioinformatic pipelines for analysis of microbiome and gene expression data.
Analysis of microbiome or metagenomics data
Analysis of gene expression data
Integration of microbiome or gene expression data with other data types including data from public databases, epigenomics data, proteomics data or clinical data.
Assist USF Faculty in planning omics experiments requiring computational analysis.
Assist USF Health faculty in grant preparation and publication submission.
PhD, MD, MD/PhD terminal degree from an accredited institution in medicine or life sciences, computational biology, computer science, engineering, or related discipline.
At least two years relevant research experience.
Strong track record of peer reviewed publications in bioinformatics/computational biology
Experience with open source tools/databases with proficiency in programming and scripting in R, Python or Perl, Bash in Unix/Linux environment.
Experience in microbiome research including 16S ribosomal RNA gene sequencing, metagenomics, and the role of the microbiome in modulating human disease.
Experience in gene expression analysis including RNA-seq, gene network analysis or epigenetics/epigenomics data analysis.
Expertise in statistical analysis of genomics data.
Experience correlating complex multivariate human health metadata with metagenomes.
Currently a Co-Investiagor on an NIH research project
